What is Halloween?
Halloween as we know it originated 2,000 Year ago. As the Celtic Festival called “Samhain”. it was celebrated on November 1. Celts believed ghosts of the dead returned on 31 October. They wore Masks so they would be mistaken for ghosts. The Catholic church marked November 1st as All Hollow’s Day in the 8th century. The Night before became all Hollows’ eve ( Later Shortened to Halloween ). Young Peoples would dress in costume the medieval Era and go “Guising” where they would perform for offerings. Irish & Scottish immigrants revived the practice in 19th century America. But it wasn’t until the 1950s that Holloween became Kid-Friendly. The Result Trick or Treat
When is Halloween 2016?
Halloween was first celebrated in the United States and Canada in the 19th century.According to The Telegraph, Halloween falls on Monday, October 31st this year but the main celebration is likely to occur on Saturday the 29th. Look out for children trick or treating on the day itself, though.
